Luxembourg's Ministry of Culture has launched a call for applications for the creation of seven musical compositions for the 2022-2023 season.

As part of its policy of publicly commissioning musical compositions, the Culture Ministry is searching for new composition projects for seven orchestras or musical ensembles for the next musical season.

Seven composition commissions will be awarded to Luxembourgish or resident composers by the following project partners: Kammerata Luxembourg; Luxembourg Military Band; Orchestre de Chambre du Luxembourg (OCL); Orchestre National de Jazz Luxembourg (ONJL); Luxembourg Philharmonic Orchestra (Orchestre philharmonique du Luxembourg - OPL; Solistes Européens Luxembourg; United Instruments of Lucilin.

Interested composers are invited to submit their application to the Ministry of Culture by 13 March 2022, indicating the ensemble(s) for which they wish to produce a composition. The files will be submitted to the orchestras concerned who will make their choice among the applications submitted.

The system of commissioning the writing of original and new musical works constitutes one of the main axes of public policy in favour of support for contemporary creation and pursues a triple objective: to stimulate the creation of a large number of musical projects and thus contribute to the renewal of repertoires; to support the work of composers; to ensure the diversity of the offer by encouraging musical structures (orchestras, musical ensembles, etc.) to programme works by contemporary Luxembourg composers.

The programme provides composers with recognition of their work by the Luxembourg State and supports the efforts of creation and dissemination structures, which present the selected works to the public.

The conditions and criteria of the call for applications are available (in French) on the website of the Ministry of Culture.
