The Automobile Club Luxembourg (ACL) has announced it is participating in Sécurité Routière (Road Safety) Asbl’s annual “Lights and Tyres” road safety campaign, which began on Friday 18 October 2025.

The campaign focuses on winter safety and offers drivers a free check on the condition of their car’s tyres and lights. During the checks, the technicians of the ACL-Diagnostic Centre will evaluate the profile of each tyre and inform motorists of its status, age and if its wear is uneven. 

In Luxembourg, winter tyres are mandatory in case of winter conditions (ice, packed snow, slush, ice or frost plates) throughout the year and the ACL reminds drivers that the law stipulates that the minimum tread depth must be 1.6 mm. For safety reasons, the ACL recommends that winter tyres with a tread depth of less than 4 mm should no longer be used. Below this limit, they are less effective on snow.

The ACL will also perform checks on each vehicles’ lights to ensure they are performing correctly (dipped beam, main beam, fog lights, driving lights, position lights, number plate lights, reversing lights and indicators). They will also check the condition of the reflectors and headlight lenses.

Autoglass Luxembourg will be present to evaluate the condition of each car’s windscreen.

The campaign runs until Saturday 15 November 2025.
