The Grand Ducal Police have reported two fatal road accidents, one on Monday 28 August 2023 and another on Tuesday 29 August 2023.

A first accident occurred on Monday evening. The police received reports of an unauthorised individual on private property in the Cité op Lauterbann in Niederkorn. The suspect was allegedly running riot in the area. A police patrol went to the address in question, where the male suspect approached the officers in his vehicle.

However, the man fled when he saw the police patrol and the officers chased him. At the intersection of Pénétrante de Lankelz and Boulevard Grande-Durchesse Charlotte in Esch-Alzette, the driver collided with a wall, causing his vehicle to catch fire. The officers rushed to the scene of the accident and attempted to extinguish the blaze and rescue the driver before the fire brigade arrived. However, the rescue services arrived to find the man dead on-site.The public prosecutor's office ordered an accident report to be drawn up, the vehicle was confiscated and an autopsy was requested.

A second traffic accident occurred early on Tuesday, at around 04:45 on the CR226 in Contern. A car crashed into a tree for reasons that have not yet been clarified. The 27-year-old driver died at the scene of the accident despite receiving first aid on-site. The route was closed for the duration of the rescue operation and the accident investigations.
