On Thursday 13 February 2025, Luxembourg’s Ministry of Mobility and Public Works reported that it recently held meetings with the OGBL trade union, as well as the FGFC municipal employees’ union and the TICE intermunicipal transport union, and presented the outcomes of discussions regarding the future of TICE.

The meeting with OGBL took place as a follow-up to the session held on 10 December 2024.

In the press releases, participants expressed regret over the premature disclosure of information from ongoing confidential negotiations. They noted that such leaks fuel unfounded concerns among staff and create unnecessary uncertainty.

The discussions emphasised the “essential role” of TICE in ensuring mobility in southern Luxembourg. All parties agreed on the importance of implementing “sustainable solutions to guarantee the development and long-term viability” of the public transport union. The participants noted that this includes increased financial support from the state and active state involvement in strategic decisions.

The ministry and the OGBL stated that a key point of consensus was the preservation of social standards. It was clearly reaffirmed that the social benefits and working conditions of TICE employees, staff and civil servants would remain protected by current legislation, employment contracts and applicable regulations. They also confirmed that privatisation of the intermunicipal union is not an option.

According to one of the statements, the FGFC - as the representative union for municipal employees and the majority presence within the staff delegation - has been recognised as a legitimate partner to contribute its expertise to personnel-related discussions.

The statements also confirmed that regular meetings on the subject would be held every two months.
