On Wednesday 27 November 2024, Luxembourg’s Ministry of the Economy confirmed the selection of 25 projects to install 273 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations at companies throughout the country.
The 25 projects were chosen following the fifth call for projects granting financial aid to companies investing in electric vehicle charging infrastructure projects. The relevant companies will benefit from a subsidy of up to 50% of their investment.
The projects selected were submitted by 20 companies, including petrol stations, shopping centres, construction companies and industrial companies. The total amount of aid granted by the State under this call for projects is €3.7 million. In total, 273 terminals will be subsidised, including 180 private terminals and 93 that will be accessible to the public. The total charging capacity of these terminals is 17,098 kW.
Luxembourg's Minister of the Economy, SMEs, Energy and Tourism, Lex Delles, stated: "The remarkable level of commitment that we continue to observe, even after the fifth call for projects, underlines the determination of companies from various sectors to commit to the decarbonisation of their economic activities. Thanks to such measures, we are gradually getting closer to achieving the objectives set out in the PNEC [integrated national energy and climate plan] and improving the competitiveness of companies".
The ministry added that there is another aid scheme reserved for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), which falls under Luxembourg’s recovery and resilience plan, as approved by the European Commission on 18 June 2021. Upon application, SMEs can benefit from a subsidy of up to 50% of the costs related to charging stations and up to 60% of the costs related to connection to the electricity grid. This aid is capped at €60,000 to cover costs of connection to the electricity grid and €40,000 for other connection costs. This scheme will end at the end of 2024. All applications must be received no later than Tuesday 31 December 2024.
