The LCGB, the majority trade union in Luxembourg's transport sector, and the OGBL union, recently renewed two job retention plans for the taxi and bus tourism industries.

These sectoral job retention plans are aimed at the taxi industry, represented by the Fédération des Taxis, Voitures de Location et Ambulances and the ALTVA, as well as the bus tourism industry, represented by the FLEAA.

As the taxi and bus tourism industries remain weakened by the COVID-19 pandemic and its consequences, this social support through sectoral job retention plans is "necessary in order to give a breath of fresh air to the companies concerned", according to the LCGB.

The existing procedures have therefore been extended from 1 March to 30 June 2022 and aim to guarantee the livelihoods of the employees concerned through the following support measures:

- partial unemployment, adapted to the sectors concerned;
- a series of provisions relating to continuing or qualifying vocational training;
- admission to the early retirement-adjustment scheme;
- the temporary loan of labour.

The unions also specifically highlighted the employment guarantee which obliges companies benefiting from such measures not to lay off people for economic reasons throughout the period of validity of these plans.

Moreover, a monitoring committee made up of representatives of the two unions and each federation will be created in order to regularly monitor the progress of the actions implemented by the trade unions and their impact on staff.
