The 47th Midi de la Microfinance, centred around inclusive finance and insurance, will take place on Wednesday 5 June 2019 from 12:00-14:00 at the Banque de Luxembourg (auditorium).

Organised by ADA, the Midi de Microfinance entitled "Optimising impact: pairing inclusive finance and insurance" will elaborate on the relatively new concept of inclusive insurance and its role in developing countries. Whilst the concept of inclusive finance is well-known, particularly microfinance, inclusive insurance remains less discussed. And yet, insurance can prove valuable in protecting vulnerable households in developing countries, where social protection is often very limited.

This event will thus discuss the ways in which Microfinance institutions (MFIs) can use insurance to protect their own loan portfolios but to also offer income protection, for example in the face of crop failure, and health insurance. The provision of health insurance can be a good way to help customers, many of whom may never have purchased insurance before, understand how insurance works and how they can benefit from well-designed insurance services.

The 47th Midi de la Microfinance will elaborate, using the Women's World Bank as a case study, on how MFIs are using insurance services to increase their impact and strengthen their business models at the same time.

Speakers at this edition include moderator Matthew Genazzini, Head of Technical Support to the ADA MFIs Unit (Luxembourg), as well as Gilles Renouil, Director of Microinsurance at Women's World Banking (USA) and Sandy Salama, Marketing and Communications Manager at Lead Foundation (Egypt). Katharine Pulvermacher, Executive Director of Microinsurance Network (Luxembourg) will conclude the Midi.

This conference will be held in English. Participation is free but registration is mandatory at https://www.ada-microfinance.org/en/events/midis-microfinance.
