Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security has announced the end of COVID-19 teleconsultations.

The order of the Health Directorate, which allowed the implementation of medical teleconsultations in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, will expire on Sunday 30 June 2024.

The ministry reported that this exceptional measure, introduced urgently to guarantee access to care while limiting the spread of the virus, had been extended until now to address a complex epidemiological situation. However, from 1 July 2024, teleconsultation rates based on this order will no longer be covered.

Luxembourg's Minister of Health and Social Security, Martine Deprez, noted: "Teleconsultation has been an essential solution to ensure continuity of care during the COVID-19 pandemic. We recognise the commitment and professionalism of the health professionals who used this new consultation modality. However, with the improvement of the health situation, it is time to reassess our measures and turn to an approach more adapted to the post-pandemic reality."

Work carried out by the ministry is underway to finalise the modalities relating to teleconsultations. The ministry reported that this work will be completed at the start of the school year, thus allowing referral to the nomenclature committee in autumn. As such, continuity in access to care for all citizens will be guaranteed before the arrival of winter, concluded the ministry.
