On Friday 7 January 2022, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 1,905 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 922 fatalities (one new death since Thursday) resulting from the virus to date.

1,905 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Friday from a total of 6,112 tests carried out the day before, representing 300.13 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 31.17%. Wednesday 5 January 2022 marked the record daily high of 2,131 new cases.

The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 1205.29. 

A total of 72 people are in hospital with the virus, including 22 patients in intensive care. 

There are currently 13,766 active infections known, whilst a total of 97,515 people have recovered from the virus to date. The effective reproduction rate in Luxembourg stands at 1.42.

A total of 1,104,628 vaccinations have been carried out in Luxembourg to date (466,309 first doses, 406,344 second doses, 231,975 additional doses). A total of 447,471 people are now fully vaccinated.

The incidence rate (per 100,000 inhabitants) for unvaccinated individuals was 343.93; for vaccinated individuals, this was 280.23. These figures only take into consideration people who returned a positive PCR test.
