On Thursday 6 January 2022, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 1,932 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 921 fatalities (one new death since Wednesday) resulting from the virus to date.

1,932 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Thursday from a total of 6,113 tests carried out the day before, representing 304.38 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 31.62%. Wednesday 5 January 2022 marked the record daily high of 2,131 new cases.

The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 1116.00. 

A total of 67 people are in hospital with the virus, including 20 patients in intensive care. 

There are currently 12,444 active infections known, whilst a total of 96,933 people have recovered from the virus to date. The effective reproduction rate in Luxembourg stands at 1.53.

A total of 1,096,464 vaccinations have been carried out in Luxembourg to date (465,593 first doses, 405,585 second doses, 225,286 additional doses). A total of 446,681 people are now fully vaccinated.

The incidence rate (per 100,000 inhabitants) for unvaccinated individuals was 306.40; for vaccinated individuals, this was 303.46. These figures only take into consideration people who returned a positive PCR test.
