On Friday 31 December 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 1,280 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 915 fatalities (three new death since Thursday) resulting from the virus to date.

1,280 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Tuesday from a total of 4,497 tests carried out the day before, representing 201.66 people per 100,000 inhabitants and the highest single day ever recorded in Luxembourg. The positivity rate was 28.48%.

The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 582.57.

A total of 67 people are in hospital with the virus, including 21 patients in intensive care.

There are currently 8,013 active infections known, whilst a total of 94,838 people have recovered from the virus to date. The effective reproduction rate in Luxembourg stands at 1.53.

A total of 1,071,893 vaccinations have been carried out in Luxembourg to date (463,638 first doses, 402,873 second doses, 205,382 additional doses). A total of 444,085 people are now fully vaccinated.

The incidence rate (per 100,000 inhabitants) for unvaccinated individuals was 218.28; for vaccinated individuals, this was 193.90. These figures only take into consideration people who returned a positive PCR test.
