On Thursday 16 December 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 537 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 897 fatalities (one new death since Wednesday) resulting from the virus to date.
537 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Thursday from a total of 5,509 tests carried out the day before, representing 84.60 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 9.75%. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.
The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 271.29.
A total of 79 people are in hospital with the virus, including 24 patients in intensive care.
There are currently 5,970 active infections known, whilst a total of 88,892 people have recovered from the virus to date. The effective reproduction rate in Luxembourg stands at 1.03.
A total of 991,714 vaccinations have been carried out in Luxembourg to date (455,951 first doses, 397,601 second doses, 138,162 additional doses). A total of 438,429 people are now fully vaccinated.
The incidence rate (per 100,000 inhabitants) for unvaccinated individuals was 144.37; for vaccinated individuals, this was 55.51. These figures only take into consideration people who returned a positive PCR test.
