At a press conference on Monday 13 December 2021, Luxembourg's Minister of Health, Paulette Lenert, confirmed a first case of the Omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant in the Grand Duchy.

The 30-year-old woman in question had not travelled outside Luxembourg and had received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, although she had not yet received a booster jab.

Luxembourg's Director of Health, Dr Jean-Claude Schmit, confirmed that the woman, who works in a nursing home in southern Luxembourg, is currently displaying symptoms of the virus.

Contact tracing is underway and nursing home residents who were in contact with the woman have been placed in quarantine.
