
On Wednesday 8 December 2021, Luxembourg's Ministry of Health reported 666 new COVID-19 (coronavirus) infections; there have been 889 fatalities (one new death since Tuesday) resulting from the virus to date.
666 Luxembourg residents tested positive on Wednesday from a total of 5,432 tests carried out the day before, representing 104.93 people per 100,000 inhabitants. The positivity rate was 12.26%. Wednesday 18 November 2020 marked the record daily high of 891 new cases.
The average daily increase (over a 7-day period) is currently 282.57.
A total of 72 people are in hospital with the virus, including 21 patients in intensive care.
There are currently 5,727 active infections known, whilst a total of 85,958 people have recovered from the virus to date.The effective reproduction rate in Luxembourg stands at 1.04.
A total of 947,086 vaccinations have been carried out in Luxembourg to date (450,904 first doses, 394,091 second doses, 102,091 additional doses). A total of 434,615 people are now fully vaccinated.
From 6 December 2021, the Ministry of Health is including the incidence rates of new infections by vaccination status in its daily reports. These new infections only affect people who return a positive PCR test. On Wednesday, the incidence rate for unvaccinated individuals was reported as 164.06; for vaccinated individuals, this was 75.37.
