On 7 December 2021, the Luxembourg Ministry of Health confirmed that 13,110 Vaxzevria (AstraZeneca) COVID-19 vaccine doses had been destroyed after they reached their expiry date on 30 November 2021.

The Ministry clarified that the delivery of Vaxzevria doses were stopped since 13 September 2021, because the validity period was not long enough to guarantee a second dose within the short shelf-life of the shipment.

As AstraZeneca could not provide the necessary data confirming the quality and prolongation of shelf-life of these 13,110 Vaxzevria vaccine doses in time, the vials were removed from the national stock and destroyed.
