Luxembourg's Ministry of State has confirmed that Prime Minister Xavier Bettel remains under medical observation in hospital due to the persistence of COVID-19 symptoms.

Over the weekend, the Prime Minister's symptoms did not abate, thus leading to his being hospitalised as a precaution. At that time, medical staff diagnosed the Prime Minister with insufficient oxygen saturation and he has been under continuous medical observation since then.

According to the ministry, the Prime Minister's current medical state is considered "serious but stable". The medical staff surrounding the Prime Minister decided that hospitalisation remains necessary for an estimated duration of two to four days in order to be able to continue observing his condition.

In order to best guarantee the operational continuity of current affairs, Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Pierre Gramegna, has been delegated the power of signature. Prime Minister Xavier Bettel will continue to be responsible for the coordination of government work and will assume his functions remotely.
