Luxembourg's Ministry of Education, Children and Youth has published statistics on the evolution of the COVID-19 situation in schools across the Grand Duchy for the week of 10 to 16 May 2021.

The figures for students and teachers testing positive for COVID-19 relate to all public and private primary and secondary schools and competence centres in specialised psychopedagogy located across Luxembourg.

During the week of 10 to 16 May, there was a decrease (-55) in the number of positive cases compared to the previous week; the total number of cases fell from 297 to 242.

More specifically, during the week in question:

- 190 cases corresponding to scenario 1 were counted in 53 primary schools, 36 secondary schools and three competence centres (scenario 1: pupil or teacher infected outside the school without there having been a spread of the virus at school);

- 29 cases corresponding to scenario 2 were observed in eleven primary schools and nine secondary schools (scenario 2: two positive cases in a class with an uncertain source of infection or probably outside the class);

- Eleven cases corresponding to scenario 3 were identified in one primary school, two secondary schools and one competence centre (scenario 3: three to five positive cases in a class);

- One scenario 4 with twelve cases appeared in a school (scenario 4: several classes concerned or a class with more than five cases).

On 8 May 2021, a pupil in one of the four classes in cycle 3 of Leudelange primary school tested positive. The class in question was isolated from other classes (scenario 1). The infected pupil was in contact with nineteen pupils from other cycle 3 classes at a "maison relais" (daycare structure); these classes were also isolated. Testing revealed twelve additional positive cases. As the pupils from the different classes in cycle 3 mix at the maison relais, helping the virus to spread from one class to another, it was decided to quarantine the pupils of all four cycle 3 classes.
