Luxembourg's Ministry of State has confirmed that 18,000 people had already registered on the waiting list to get the Vaxzevria® (AstraZeneca) COVID-19 vaccine as of 10:00 on Thursday morning.

From the moment the registration form was put online on MyGuichet.lu (live from 18:00 on Wednesday) until midnight last night, more than 12,500 procedures had been submitted via the Government IT Centre's servers.

The Ministry of State noted that this testified to the strong interest of members of the public in being voluntarily vaccinated against COVID-19 with the Vaxzevria vaccine.

A clear increase in requests has been observed since the launch of the form. In all, more than 100,000 unique visitors were recorded on the Guichet.lu portal, the single point of contact for state procedures, for the day of 21 April 2021. That same day, the portal's pages were viewed more than 480,000 times with a peak of 116,000 pages viewed between 18:00 and 19:00.

On the technical equipment delivering the registration form, more than 25,000 parallel connections accessing the form at the same time could be observed directly after it was put online.

This exceptional number of simultaneous connections is unprecedented. Although the Government IT Centre had prepared for a clear increase in workload, the popularity of this procedure exceeded the capacities of the centre's IT systems. During the night, staff put in place the necessary measures to ensure that a significantly higher number of requests were taken care of.

The impfen.lu site will remain online for the next few days, thus allowing residents who were unable to register on the list last night to be able to do so.
