As mentioned by Luxembourg's Prime Minister, Xavier Bettel, yesterday Wednesday 15 April 2020, the government has received 7 million surgical masks which will be distributed to residents across the Grand Duchy as well as to cross-border workers: the Ministry of the Interior and SYVICOL are organising the distribution of masks.

A consultation meeting between the Ministry of the Interior and SYVICOL was held yesterday in order to organise the distribution of surgical masks to the entire population and to the services of the municipalities and assimilated entities.

The CGDIS is in charge of delivering the masks to the municipal sector, while distribution to the population will be ensured by the 102 municipalities and will start next week. Citizens will be informed of the method and time of distribution by their respective municipal administration.

Luxembourg's Minister of the Interior, Taina Bofferding, welcomed the constructive approach of SYVICOL and the municipalities to support the government’s efforts.

The president of SYVICOL, Emile Eicher, was satisfied with this step which he explained corresponds perfectly to the approach of SYVICOL which estimates that the responsibility for the provision of protective material to the population belongs in this first phase to the government.
