Saturne Technology, a major European player in the laser fusion metal additive manufacturing market based in Contern (Luxembourg), has raised €3.7 million in funding from Akiles, Eurefi, Innovation Fund and Fonds Européen des Matériaux (Demeter).

This operation is in addition to €2.7 million of grants already awarded by Luxembourg's Ministry of the Economy, taking into account the major investments planned by Saturne Technology over the next three years. The company also has the support of local banking partners such as the Société Nationale de Crédit et d'Investissement (SNCI).

Founded in 2001 by its current director, Walter Grzymlas, Saturne Technology is an SME (small and medium-sized enterprise) with a team of nineteen people. The Luxembourg-based company operates on an international level and has developed sophisticated know-how in laser techniques for cutting, drilling, welding and laser cladding. It has gained a specialised focus on laser metal additive manufacturing by securing several production partnerships. Saturne Technology operates in several market sectors, including cutting edge industry, aeronautics, aerospace, the transport industry and the medical sector. Over the last ten years, the company has gained reputed know-how and progressed strongly on the market of laser metal additive manufacturing.

The new funds raised will enable Saturne Technology to continue its investment and to both grow its capacity and integrate a range of services pre- and post-additive manufacturing. The company has certified a number of parts which will go into production in 2022 and its needs in terms of capacity are set to grow in the short, medium and long term.

Furthermore, the funds raised will help to strengthen the current team with the foreseen recruitment of a Production Director and a Sales Executive for large accounts, as well as to continue its investment in research and development (R&D).

Following the development phase, the company’s goal is to produce annually fifteen tonnes of ready-to-use parts through additive manufacturing by 2024.

Walter Grzymlas, Founder and Director of Saturne Technology, commented: "This fundraising gives the company significant means to change size, strengthen itself and become a benchmark player in series production in metal additive manufacturing. The complementarity of funds from he investment that participate in the operation is a real asset for the company which will grow rapidly over the next few years".
