The Grand Ducal Police have reported that two people were arrested following a shoplifting incident near Luxembourg Central Station on Saturday 8 August 2026.
On Saturday at around 16:00, police received a report of a shoplifting incident at a shop on Place de la Gare in Luxembourg-Gare. A police patrol subsequently attended the scene.
According to the shop's security officer, two men had entered the shop at around 14:00 and stolen a bottle of alcohol. They reportedly returned two hours later and began filling a suitcase and backpack with alcohol and other items.
The security officer confronted the two men and attempted to detain them until police arrived. However, according to the police, the men became increasingly aggressive and a scuffle ensued. The two suspects subsequently fled in the direction of Luxembourg central station.
During a subsequent search, police identified and arrested the two suspects, who reportedly strongly resisted arrest and continued to behave aggressively during their transport and the subsequent police procedures.
Both suspects were arrested on the orders of the Public Prosecutor's Office.
