On Thursday 22 October 2026, the Health Directorate of Luxembourg's Ministry of Health and Social Security published its weekly overview of the evolution of major acute respiratory infections, including COVID-19, influenza (flu) and respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), for the week of Monday 12 to Sunday 18 October 2026 (week 42).
Stable number of COVID-19 / SARS-CoV-2 cases
During week 42, the number of positive COVID-19 cases decreased slightly from 127 to 122 compared to the previous week. The number of cases remains lower than that recorded during the same period in previous years.
The viral concentration detected in wastewater increased.
The latest available sequencing data reveals that the XFG variant (65%) and the NB.1.8.1 variant (15%) are predominant.
Flu cases remain at a low level
During week 42, the number of flu cases reported by laboratories increased slightly from 29 to 32 compared to the previous week. The number of cases therefore remains broadly stable and at a level comparable to that recorded during the same period in previous years.
During the last week, influenza A accounted for 79% of typed cases, while influenza B represented 21%.
Low level of RSV cases
The number of RSV cases reported by laboratories remained low, with five cases reported during week 42, compared to two the previous week.
