On Friday 18 September 2026, Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice announced that the Council of Government had endorsed the proposal to renew Judge François Biltgen's mandate at the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) for a further six years.
Luxembourg’s Minister of Justice Elisabeth Margue proposed François Biltgen as Luxembourg's candidate for another term as a judge at the CJEU, starting on Wednesday 7 October 2027.
According to the ministry, Luxembourg will submit the proposed appointment to the conference of representatives of the governments of the EU Member States as soon as possible, in accordance with Article 253 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (EU).
