On Wednesday 19 July 2023, the Chamber of Deputies (Luxembourg's parliament) voted on several bills, including those relating to the fight against child sexual abuse.

According to Luxembourg's Ministry of Justice, Bill 7949 provides for several adaptations to the law in relation to sexual abuse: the notion of "attentat à la pudeur" (indecent assault) will be replaced by that of "atteinte à l'intégrité sexuelle" (violation of sexual integrity).

The bill also expands the definition of rape. Incestuous relations will be considered as an independent criminal offence and the punishment for rape or incest will be harsher.

Moreover, the bill increases certain limitation periods and creates several cases of imprescriptibility in order to offer greater legal protection for minors.

56 MPs voted in favour of the bill, whilst three abstained (and one did not vote).
