In the week following Strassen Municipality's announcement of its provision of Luxembourgish courses, the Ville de Luxembourg has revealed it will be offering adult classes in Luxembourgish language and culture in the school year 2015/16.
The course is due to begin on 28 September 2015, with the programme providing a four year learning cycle spread through four levels: beginner, intermediate, advanced and 'conversation'. As in the previous year's programmes, participants will have the option of a beginner's course beginning in February 2016; intensive courses for those who want to progress faster or who wish to take the course only once a week/on weekends; and two courses specifically designed for people who have mastered the German language.
In total, 39 courses are available, with classes available in the morning, between 12:00 and 14:00, in the afternoon and in the evening. These classes will be taught in several districts around the City, in Bonnevoie, Cents and the Gare district and will be accompanied by extra-curricular activities of a cultural kind.
The classes are based on the princiiples of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), developed by the Council of Europe and are accredited by the Ministry of Education and Training, giving them the right to obtain a certificate of quality.
To guarantee flexibility, potential students are invited to pre-register now and make an appointment through the downloadable form on the Culture & Entertainment section of the Ville de Luxembourg's website www.vdl.lu. On the website, all courses can be chosen according to the availability of the participant.
The final registrations will then take place at the Rocade de Bonnevoie at 3, Rue du Laboratoire, between 15 and 23 September 2015. The cost for a 55-hour course amounts to €50 and for a 110-hour course to €100. A €10 reduction is applicable for jobseekers registered with ADEM that have been assigned to a language course, RMG beneficiaries who have been assigned a language course by the National Social Action Service (SNAS) and people recognised as in need by the Luxembourg Office for Reception and Immigration (OLAI) or by the Social Office.
