On Friday 23 October 2026, Luxembourg's Government Council approved a proposal by Culture Minister Eric Thill to submit the appointment of Luc Marteling as Director of the National Audiovisual Centre (CNA) to the Grand Duke.
Luc Marteling is expected to take office on 1 January 2027.
Born in 1975, Luc Marteling completed his secondary education at the Lycée classique d'Echternach before pursuing studies in communication sciences, psychology and philosophy in Munich. He subsequently obtained a second master's degree in Luxembourg Studies at the University of Luxembourg.
After nearly twenty years of journalism experience with several Luxembourg media outlets, including Télécran, the Luxemburger Wort and RTL.lu, he was appointed in 2019 as the first director of the newly established Zenter fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch (Zenter fir d'Lëtzebuerger Sprooch - ZLS). In 2024, he joined RTL Lëtzebuerg as Director of News.
According to the Ministry of Culture, his career in both the media and state administration combines in-depth knowledge of Luxembourg's media landscape with management experience in the fields of media and culture. These skills are considered assets in supporting the development of the CNA, assisting its teams and strengthening the institution's links with its audiences and partners.
Minister Thill commented: "The CNA preserves an essential part of our collective memory. With this appointment, we want to give the CNA a long-term perspective and fresh momentum. Through his experience in the media and at the head of a cultural institution, Luc Marteling is the right person to pursue this ambition together with the teams, in a spirit of dialogue and trust." He added: "His career gives him the necessary strengths to support the CNA's development and strengthen its place in the country's cultural life. I thank Carlo Blum for his commitment during this transition period."
Carlo Blum has served as interim director of the CNA since 1 May 2026, pending the completion of the recruitment procedure. At the same meeting, the Government Council also approved the extension of his mandate until 31 December 2026.
As a state cultural institution, the National Audiovisual Centre is responsible for preserving, promoting and transmitting audiovisual heritage. Through its conservation, research, mediation and dissemination activities, it helps make this heritage accessible and foster dialogue around images and sound.
