On Friday 25 September 2026, Luxembourg's Grand Ducal Fire and Rescue Corps (CGDIS) swore in 29 new professional firefighters following two years of training.
According to CGDIS, the new intake comprises 20 professional firefighters from the basic career framework and nine professional firefighter officers from the senior career framework. Their training combined theoretical instruction with practical placements to prepare them for their future roles within Luxembourg's emergency services.
From October 2026, the newly sworn-in firefighters will take up their permanent assignments within fire and rescue centres (CIS), rescue zones and CGDIS directorates, where they will strengthen the organisation's emergency response capacity.
The swearing in ceremony included speeches by CGDIS Administrative and Financial Director Claude Frantzen and Luxembourg's Minister for Home Affairs Léon Gloden. According to the CGDIS, they highlighted the commitment, perseverance, professional attitude and sense of public service demonstrated by the new firefighters throughout their training.
The CGDIS noted that the swearing-in forms part of its ongoing development efforts to respond to growing civil protection needs in Luxembourg, with recruitment continuing to ensure sufficient personnel for its operations.
A further 67 recruits are set to begin training in October 2026 as they work towards becoming professional firefighters.
Moreover, in line with the National Emergency Response Organisation Plan, the CGDIS said that it is planning to launch another recruitment campaign for professional firefighters in spring 2027.
