On Friday 10 July 2026, Luxembourg bank Spuerkeess (Banque et Caisse d'Épargne de l'État, Luxembourg) announced the appointment of Benoît Elvinger as its new Director General and Chairman of the Management Committee.

The appointment was approved by the Government Council following a proposal by Luxembourg's Minister of Finance, Gilles Roth, and will take effect on 1 October 2026.

The announcement follows Spuerkeess's decision in November 2025 that Chief Executive Officer Françoise Thoma would step down before the end of her term as part of the bank's strategic transformation. She remained in office pending the appointment of her successor, after which she is due to assume a strategic advisory role under the authority of the Board of Directors.

Spuerkeess also confirmed that it will organise a press conference in September, during which Benoît Elvinger will officially introduce himself and present his vision for the future of the bank.
