On Monday 21 October 2024, Marriott Hotels announced the appointment of Rex Nijhof as General Manager of the Luxembourg Marriott Hotel Alfa, due to open later this year in Luxembourg-Gare; this opening marks the debut of the Marriott Hotels brand in the country.

Mr Nijhof joined Marriott in early 1991 and has since worked with seventeen Marriott International hotels in different countries. Prior to moving to Luxembourg, Mr Nijhof, originally from The Netherlands, was the General Manager of the Renaissance Amsterdam Hotel, where he oversaw the hotel’s renovation. Mr Nijhof stated: “I am thrilled to lead the team at the Luxembourg Marriott hotel Alfa as we prepare to open our doors later this year. This is the rebirth of an iconic building in Luxembourg and our goal is to provide an exceptional experience for our guests. We are committed to creating a welcoming environment for both our guests and our team members, and we look forward to becoming an integral part of the local community.”

Conveniently located opposite the city's central railway station, the Luxembourg Marriott Hotel Alfa will “offer the perfect gateway to explore Luxembourg and its alluring blend of historical charm and modern vitality.” The 1930s building, housing the hotel, will feature art deco design elements throughout the signature Greatroom Lobby and M Club (executive lounge) as well as its 153 guestrooms and suites.

The Brasserie Alfa restaurant, with original paintings of Luxembourg artist Julien Lefèvre, will offer an authentic French brasserie experience with a menu blending classic French dishes with Luxembourgish influences.

Other facilities will include a fully equipped gym and five meeting rooms on the first floor.
