On Monday 21 October 2024, Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, reported that there were 17,733 resident jobseekers available for work at the end of September 2024; the unemployment rate remained stable over one month, at 5.8%.

The number of available resident jobseekers registered with ADEM as of 30 September 2024 stood at 17,733, an increase of 1,168 people (or 7.1%) compared to September 2023, but almost identical to the figure for August 2024 (1,735).

This number of jobseekers was on the rise for all unemployment periods exceeding four months.
The most qualified jobseekers (university graduates) as well as people aged 30 to 44 once again experienced the largest increases.

Regarding professions, the most significant upward variations concern the construction, road transport driving personnel, industry, accounting, IT, and banking.

The number of new jobseeker registrations was also on the rise: 3,259 residents registered with ADEM in September 2024, an increase of 117 people (or 3.7%) compared to September 2023. New registrations for the month in question include 63 registrations by beneficiaries of temporary protection (i.e. refugees from Ukraine).

The number of resident jobseekers receiving full unemployment benefits increased by 1,404 people (or 16%) over one year, to reach 10,168 as of 30 September 2024. The number of beneficiaries of an unemployment measure stood at 4,452, an increase of 12.7% compared to September 2023.

In September 2024, employers declared 3,110 vacant positions to ADEM (stable compared to one year earlier). The total number of positions available at the end of the month stood at 6,737 as of 30 September 2024. This represents a decrease of 24.9% over one year.

This decrease has particularly impacted jobs in the following sectors: accounting and management, IT, the financial and real estate sector, finishing trades, legal trades, mechanical trades, metalworking and tooling.
