In its latest report, Luxembourg's statistical institute, STATEC, has confirmed that salaried employment continued to grow into the third quarter of 2021.

After quarterly increases of 0.9% in the first two quarters, the number of salaried employees in Luxembourg grew by 0.8% in the third quarter of 2021. Over one year, this represents an increase of 3.3%.

Trade, transport, accommodation and catering activities showed the strongest quarterly growth, up 1.0% compared to the second quarter of 2021.

Administration and other public services were up 5.1% over one year, as well as specialised activities and support services which grew 4.4% over one year, were among the most dynamic branches during this period.

For administration and other public services, STATEC accounted this favourable development from the central administration and social action for the elderly and for the disabled without accommodation.

In the branch of specialised activities and support services, the activities of the head offices as well as the activities of temporary work agencies recorded the most significant growth. Over one year, the number of employees increased in all branches of activity.

Financial and insurance activities also recorded strong growth, up 0.9% from the previous quarter.

The number of cross-border workers increased (up 1.0% compared to the previous quarter) slightly more than that of residents (up 0.6%). Year-on-year, the number of non-European Union residents increased by up 10.5%, compared to 2.7% for Luxembourg residents.
