Luxembourg's employment agency, ADEM, has published the latest unemployment figures for the Grand Duchy.

At the end of October 2016, the total number of people registered as unemployed stood at 16,819 (up slightly from 16,493 at the end of September), down 711 from 12 months ago and which is significantly less than the 18,323 in May 2014.

The current unemployment rate has dropped to 6.3%, 0.4% below the rate from October 2015, and the lowest since 2012.

In October 2016, the number claiming unemployment benefits was 5,618 (down from March 2016 when 6,101 people were affected), with 1,918 new claimants during the month (of which 679 were first-time claimants).

At the end of October 2016, 5,166 people benefitted from an employment measure (i.e. part of their salary was paid by ADEM), representing a drop of 4.1% compared to October 2015 when 5,385 people were affected.
