Royal Netherlands Army Major General Peter DOHMEN (retired) was appointed as the new General Manager at the NATO Support and Procurement Agency (NSPA) in Capellen, Luxembourg, on 1 September.
The Luxembourg Chronicle got the chance to speak with the recently retired General, Peter Dohmen. “I feel privileged to be appointed as the new General Manager of NSPA and take up residence here in Luxembourg. As a career logistician, it will be a good challenge to lead such a dynamic organisation as NSPA and as a Dutch guy, it is wonderful to be able to get to know neighbouring Luxembourg a little bit better,” he elaborated.
NSPA, (previously the NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency) has been a part of the business and logistics landscape since the late 1960s in Luxembourg and has grown significantly over the last decade. NSPA is now NATO’s premier logistics and procurement services provider and has expanded its services especially in supporting NATO operations in places like Afghanistan and Kosovo. It offers a full portfolio of logistics and procurement capabilities:
• Logistics Services and Project Management,
• Systems Procurement and Life-Cycle Management,
• Support to Operations and Exercises,
• Fuel Management, and
• Strategic Transport and Storage.
NSPA has also enjoyed strong positive relations with Host Nation Luxembourg. “Our long standing relationship with Luxembourg has been an important element in our success. From their support to our logistics centre and headquarters in Capellen, to more recent collaboration on logistics, procurement, IT projects, and security issues, we truly appreciate the strong support and generosity of our Host Nation Luxembourg,” Dohmen added.
Recent NSPA projects with Luxembourg in the areas of logistics support and procurement include; support to deployed Luxembourg Army soldiers in both Afghanistan and Kosovo, equipment acquisition, and most recently support to the procurement of temporary housing for refugees in several communes across Luxembourg.
Luxembourgish citizens make up almost 10% of NSPA staff 70% of whom currently live in the Grand Duchy.
