On Thursday 14 November 2024, the Luxembourg Regulatory Institute (ILR) has announced that it has launched the SmartCompare.lu service for consumers in Luxembourg.
For greater transparency in the electronic communications market, SmartCompare allows consumers to compare offers and services offered. The tool provides independent information on prices and quality of Internet access services and fixed and mobile communications services, and is available free of charge.
SmartCompare provides information on prices, fees, packages, quality of service and many other details of the offers proposed. Based on the provisions of the law of 17 December 2021 on electronic communications networks and services, the Institute has had the comparison tool developed under its responsibility, which is operationally independent of service providers. The latter are required to provide information relating to their offers, under the supervision of the institute.
SmartCompare.lu is based on comparison criteria established by the ILR, together with service providers, in order to take into account the offers present on the Luxembourg market. These criteria are clear and transparent and allow an objective comparison of the offers available on the market, in order to help the consumer find the offer that best meets their needs.
Other similar services offered by the ILR include Checkmynet.lu for testing the quality of Internet access, the publication of geographic maps of fixed and mobile network coverage, and Calculix.lu for comparing electricity and gas offers. All these services are accessible through the myilr.lu website.
