On 22 December 2023 the LCGB trade union confirmed that, on Saturday 16 December, it was the victim of a cyber attack targeting its IT environment.
A crisis unit was triggered immediately after reporting the incident. It was supported by a team of cybersecurity specialists to contain the attack, protect the infrastructure, ensure a return to a fully available IT system and analyse the incident.
As of 17 December, the IT environment was once again fully operational and reinforced security measures as well as infrastructure monitoring were put in place. The next day, the members of the central committee were informed of this event as well as the information available at that time.
The relevant authorities have also been notified of the cyberattack and the possibility of data extraction. An assessment of the potential repercussions of this cyberattack is still underway. Initial analysis reports confirm that a limited portion of data was leaked. According to its latest information, the LCGB confirmed that no personal data of LCGB employees or LCGB members had been copied. Investigative work on the extent of the leak as well as the type of information that was exfiltrated continues.
The LCGB regrets to note that despite all the efforts and precautions taken, a cyber attack remains possible. A complaint is to be filed with the Grand Ducal police.
