On 14 November 2016, Luxembourg Prime Minister Xavier Bettel spoke to assembled officials at the opening of ITU Telecom World in Bangkok.
At the opening event of this year’s ITU Telecom World, Xavier Bettel emphasised Luxembourg’s successful technology initiatives, for instance with 95% of the population enjoying 4G and free wifi in major cities.
However, he stated that technology alone was not sufficient, but rather that people’s mentality needs to change in order to be prepared for the opportunities offered by technology. The Prime Minister said: “The digital revolution doesn’t stop at people’s doorstep. We need to think digital and connect all businesses, all villages.”
In spite of its size, Luxembourg is recognised for its significant contribution to the satellite market. Bettel highlighted this in saying that “we occupy more space in the sky than on the ground.”
This year’s ITU Telecom World will run from 14 to 17 November 2016.
