On 9 November 2016, SES announced that four more US cable operators are testing 4K content delivery across SES’s fully-managed Ultra HD platform.
SES has initiated new Ultra HD trial agreements with Marquette-Adams (Wisconsin), Buckeye Broadband (Ohio) and Southeast Michigan, Service Electric Cable TV (Pennsylvania) and enTouch Systems. This means that the company now has eight operators assessing the satellite-based UHD solution aimed at accelerating 4K delivery to American homes.
The SES Ultra HD solution leverages the scalability of satellite and delivery options, using either managed IP multicast DOCSIS 3.0 streams or traditional digital QAM transport streams. SES’s managed Ultra HD solution is delivered over dedicated bandwidth, providing a higher quality viewer experience compared to current Internet-delivered 4K offerings susceptible to buffering and network congestion.
In addition, SES has the largest global Ultra HD channel line-up, with 30 Ultra HD channels worldwide. These include seven channels hosted on two SES satellites at the centre of the orbital arc, serving almost 100 million homes across the US.
