On Tuesday 28 April 2026, the Union Luxembourgeoise de Patinage de Vitesse (ULPV) announced that Peter Murphy, a gold and silver medallist at the European Youth Olympic Festival 2017, has retired from competitive short track.
The 26-year-old skater also recorded a top-10 finish at the Winter World University Games 2025 in Turin.
According to the Union Luxembourgeoise de Patinage de Vitesse (ULPV), Peter Murphy started short track at the age of ten with the Short Track Club in Kockelscheuer. Over the years, he trained in several countries, first in Luxembourg, then in Poland and most recently in the Netherlands, where he spent the past four years. His career also included participation in numerous World Cups, as well as European and World Championships, where he “represented our small country Luxembourg on the big stage”.
“We thank you very much, Peter, for your efforts and your perseverance you brought on the ice over all these years and wish you all the best for the future,” stated ULPV.
