On Saturday 1 February 2025, Tornado Luxembourg played its 15th match in Group A of Division 2 in the French Ice Hockey Championship, securing a 6:3 away victory against one of the league’s frontrunners, Français Volants.
Christer Eriksson’s team arrived in Paris sitting in fifth place in the league standings, with the opportunity to secure a playoff spot with a victory. However, it was the hosts who struck first, as Barthelemy Peret put Français Volants ahead. Late in the first period, Adrien Maurer equalised for Tornado Luxembourg.
The second period saw both teams exchange goals once again. Leo Cuzin and Noé Gersanois each gave the home side the lead, but Tornado Luxembourg responded through Colm Cannon and Justus Haavanlammi to restore parity.
The decisive moment came in the final period, when the visitors took control, netting three unanswered goals. Justus Haavanlammi completed his brace, while Antoine Thomas struck twice to seal a commanding 6:3 victory for Tornado.
Head coach Christer Eriksson highlighted his team’s collective effort: "Good team spirit, teamwork, and patience - every game now. We are creating chances, and the whole team is involved in the scoring. When everyone sticks to the plan and works hard, we can live with some mistakes because the other guys cover up."
Thanks to this victory, Tornado Luxembourg secured a place in the play-offs and maintained its fifth position in Group A Division 2 of the French Ice Hockey Championship. The team’s current record stands at six regulation wins, two overtime wins, one overtime loss and six regulation defeats, accumulating a total of 23 points.
With three games left in the regular season, Tornado Luxembourg is set to face Coqs de Courbevoie, a top-four team, in an away fixture on Saturday 8 February 2025.
