On Saturday 25 January 2025, Tornado Luxembourg played its fourteenth match in Group A Division 2 of the French Ice Hockey Championship (FFHG), securing another victory.
A packed Kockelscheuer ice rink welcomed Lions Wasquehal, sitting in eighth place with four consecutive losses. Meanwhile, Christer Eriksson’s team entered the game with two straight wins, holding seventh place in the standings. A positive result in this match had the potential to elevate Tornado Luxembourg by two spots on the table.
The first period saw both teams exchange goals, with Martin Lagrise scoring for the visitors and Juris Upitis responding for the hosts. From there, it was all Tornado. Within seven minutes, Viktor Wahlden netted twice to bring the score to 3:1. Later, Antoine Thomas and Cannon Colm each added to the tally, sealing a 5:1 victory for Luxembourg. Viktor Wahlden was named the game’s MVP.
Winning coach Christer Eriksson praised his team’s performance and celebrated the return of goalkeeper Jesse Miquel, who played his first full match since recovering from an injury: “Jesse was really solid. He didn’t have to make too many saves, but when he did, he was there. It’s a great boost for him and for the team to have him back. It was a great team game again. We were a bit lacking in our finishing, but there was no discussion about who was in control - we dominated the whole game.”
This victory brought Tornado Luxembourg to 20 points, lifting them to fifth place in Group A Division 2 of the FFHG. The team’s record now stands at five regulation wins, two overtime wins, one overtime loss and six regulation losses.
With four games remaining in the regular season, Tornado Luxembourg will face Coqs de Courbevoie, a top-four team, on the road on Saturday 8 February 2025. They will return to Kockelscheuer ice rink on Saturday 15 February 2025 to host the tournament’s bottom-ranked team - Ducs de Dijon.
