This past weekend, the Spirit of the Highlands Pipes & Drums took over the town square of Grevenmacher in a Scottish themed headliner to their fifteenth anniversary celebrations.
The event took place over Friday 12 and Saturday 13 July 2024 and consisted of a number of different forms of pipe music, ranging from the always unique Cyberpiper's electronic pipes and Kraftwerk-like vocals, Uillean pipes from Quest Piper and a Scottish vocal medley from Ross and Sofia Steele through to the Spirit of the Highlands Pipes & Drums' sets on both days and the closing headline act of Claymore, playing for the first time in Luxembourg with their own lively version of Celtic Rock. DJ Pixel Per Inch assured a party vibe late into Friday evening.
Spirit of the Highlands president, Patrick Hoffmann, explained to Chronicle.lu that their message from the event is that there is a huge variety of pipes, and they are very excited to showcase some of them in this headline event, as well as their own traditional Scottish pipe and drum music which they play at over 30 events per year.
When asked by Chrionicle.lu if this would become an annual event, Mr Hoffmann explained that they are quite a small organisation with just 22 members (20 being musicians) and that even with the huge support of the Grevenmacher municipality, the logisitical challenge as a voluntary organisation of putting on such a big event meant that it would be reserved only for special occasions. More members would not be harmful in this respect, and anyone who wishes to find out more about the Spirit of the Highlands Pipes & Drums can visit their website: www.pipers.lu.
