On Thursday 11 July 2024, Film Fund Luxembourg reported that four Luxembourg co-productions have been selected for the Locarno Film Festival in Switzerland.

The 77th edition of the Locarno Film Festival will take place from 7 to 17 August 2024 and includes four Luxembourg co-productions in its official selection.

Two films have been selected in the official international competition: Death Will Come by German director Christoph Hochhäusler (Amour Fou Luxembourg) and Youth (Hard Times) by Chinese director Wang Bing (Les Films Fauves).

The first film is a fiction co-production bringing together Luxembourg, Germany and Belgium. The second is a documentary co-produced by France, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. The first part of this documentary, entitled Youth (Spring), was selected in official competition at Cannes in 2023 and screened in Luxembourg cinemas during the Luxembourg City Film Festival in March.

In the special "Panorama Suisse" programme (out-of-competition section presenting ten recent works from contemporary Swiss cinema), features the fiction feature film Jakobs Ross by Swiss director Katalin Gödrös, a co-production between Amour Fou Luxembourg and Switzerland. This film was also part of the selection of the last Luxembourg City Film Festival.

The animated film Slocum et moi by François Laguionie (Mélusine Studio) will be presented as part of the "Locarno Kids Screenings". This year, it was also selected at the Cannes Film Festival and the Annecy Animation Film Festival.

As reported by Film Fund Luxembourg, these four selections once again illustrate the "exceptional quality and international recognition" of Luxembourg co-productions, highlighting their "creativity, diversity and ability to collaborate effectively with international partners".
