On Tuesday 25 November 2025, the City of Luxembourg (VdL) and IMS Luxembourg marked the launch of the ecological initiative “Trees in the City - Business in Action”.
Unveiled on the occasion of the Luxembourg Sustainability Forum (LSF), the project aims to strengthen the capital’s tree heritage and promote active greening of the urban environment.
The new initiative targets organisations such as companies, public entities and associations established on the territory of the capital that wish to plant trees on their own land.
Those wishing to take part can find a catalogue of species with high ecological value and adapted to the local climate, drawn up by the VdL’s Environmental Delegate. Organisations can select the trees they wish to plant free of charge, although the planting and the long-term maintenance of the trees remain their responsibility.
Once the choice of trees has been made, the VdL Parks Department will check that the selected species are appropriate for the planned planting project. Organisations that do not have their own land to plant trees can still choose to participate on a voluntary basis in planting actions.
The initiative also allows applications for consulting firms, which have the necessary knowledge in planting and biodiversity, to collaborate as a partner consultant of the initiative.
Seven IMS Luxembourg member organisations have already expressed their support for the initiative and will soon plant a total of 149 trees on their respective sites.
The project forms part of the VdL strategy aiming to plant 30,000 new trees by 2030 across the entire municipal territory, in cooperation with citizens, companies and state bodies.
