The Ellergronn nature reserve hosted the second Citizen Climate Forum, organised by the Ecological Service of the City (municipality) of Esch-sur-Alzette in collaboration with the association Transition Minett, on Saturday 17 May 2025.
The event formed part of "Klimawoch” (Climate Week) 2025 in Esch-sur-Alzette, which this year focused on the theme “Trees and Forests, Guardians of the Climate.”
According to Transition Minett, around 40 people gathered in a convivial and participatory setting for a morning of exchange, reflection and the development of concrete proposals aimed at creating a more sustainable city.
During the Citizen Climate Forum, participants engaged in four thematic workshops. Pol Zimmermann from the Nature and Forest Agency (ANF) led a session on the health of forests and nature-oriented forestry, including assessment, solutions and proposals. Ricardo Poeira from ProSud facilitated a workshop focused on raising awareness of forests as carbon sinks. Chris Fandel from the municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette addressed issues related to planning, maintenance and protection of green spaces and biodiversity in public urban areas. A parallel session led by Robert Hilger, also from municipality of Esch-sur-Alzette, explored similar themes in private urban spaces, including available biodiversity subsidies.
