On Monday 30 October 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, together with the Water Management Administration, confirmed that "the situation has normalised" and that the blue algae alert (relating to cyanobacteria blooms) has been lefted for the Lake Haute-Sûre.

The concern over the proliferation of cyanobacteria in the Haute-Sûre lake which was accompanied by a high concentrations of toxins produced by these cyanobacteria, is now over.

Seasonal changes in the climatology and hydrodynamics of Lake Haute-Sûre have led to a strong decline in the biomass of cyanobacteria; monitoring carried out by the Luxembourg Institute of Science and Technology (LIST) has made it possible to confirm the dissipation of efflorescences. This development in the situation thus puts an end to the alert for microbiological and toxic risks at the public health level linked to the presence of cyanobacteria blooms.

Practice of recreational and sporting activities

The practice of recreational and sporting activities, with the exception of swimming, can therefore resume (the bathing season ended on 30 September 2023).
