Wednesday 6 October 2022 marked the launch of KlimaExpo, National Housing Week and Home Expo at Luxexpo The Box in Luxembourg-Kirchberg.
Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Joëlle Welfring, the Minister for Energy and for Spatial Planning, Claude Turmes, and the Minister of Housing, Henri Kox jointly inaugurated these three exhibitions for the first time, in the presence of His Royal Highness the Grand Duke of Luxembourg, on Wednesday. The opening is part of a new partnership, allowing visitors to visit common stands and access the three exhibitions with a single ticket. The opening was followed by an official tour of the exhibition stands.
KlimaExpo – the national meeting for the climate
The second edition of KlimaExpo allows visitors to discover more than 40 exhibition stands and over 50 events. The new generation of young people is particularly involved in this edition with the participation of youth delegates and representatives in the various committees, by the "Youthreporters" of Youth4Planet and through various workshops organised for school classes.
Alongside the exhibitions, an official programme run by the Environment Ministry focuses on the professional aspects of climate policy. On Friday 7 October 2022, the big climate day begins with a press conference on the climate and energy balance, followed by the presentation of the official report of the scientific observatory of climate policy. Later in the morning, the constituent session of the climate platform will begin its work, which consists in particular in the development of the new integrated national energy and climate plan (Plan national intégré en matière d'énergie et de climat - PNEC), which will also integrate the reactions and recommendations of the "Klima-Biergerrot" (citizens' climate council) and the scientific observatory of climate policy.
Other events will take place throughout the KlimaExpo, such as the presentation of the Klima-Biergerrot proposals, an exhibition around the results of the citizen approach "Luxembourg in Transition", the photo exhibition "1001 Tonnen" by Jessica Theis on the management of litter and the travelling exhibition "Climate Countdown - the Road to 2050", which integrates climate assessment data each year and puts it in the context of Luxembourg's reduction objectives for 2050.
"All in all, the KlimaExpo is a national meeting, where there is something to experience and where work is also done: on the PNEC (the national climate and energy plan), on the dialogue with all concerned partners and on the future for all of us", commented Minister Welfring.
KlimaExpo opening hours: Thursday 6 October from 10:00 to 19:00; Friday 7 October from 10:00 to 21:00; Saturday 8 October from 10:00 to 19:00. Further information and tickets are available at www.klimaexpo.lu.
National Housing Week
Over four days, from Thursday 6 to Sunday 9 October 2022, the National Housing Week brings together all housing stakeholders in Luxembourg, including institutions, administrations, public and private developers and financial institutes. The fair, organised by Luxembourg's Ministry of Housing, is held in hall 2 of Luxexpo with more than 60 exhibitors.
The one-stop-shop for housing aid team are available to inform visitors about the various financial aid schemes for tenants, owners and first-time buyers. The stand is shared with researchers from the housing observatory, who can provide information on housing and land tenure trends in Luxembourg.
During his speech at the inauguration, Minister Kox presented the progress made on the national affordable housing strategy: "All the reform projects announced in the 2018 coalition agreement and under the jurisdiction of the Ministry of Housing, are on track. The change of course towards the realisation of the right to housing has been made".
The Ministry of Housing has acted on two axes: significant financial investment in increasing public, affordable and sustainable housing; protection for individuals and better regulation of the private market. The Housing Pact 2.0 is also underway, with 99 municipalities having embarked on its implementation.
National Housing Week opening hours: Thursday 6 October from 10:00 to 19:00; Friday 7 October from 10:00 to 21:00; Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 October from 10:00 to 19:00. Further information is available here.
