On Friday 9 September 2022, Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, Joëlle Welfring, presented the launch of the "We Want Luxembourg" (Eist Wült Luxembourg) campaign in the backdrop of river Eisch and the "Schwarzenhaff / Jongebêsch" nature reserve in the east of the Grand Duchy.

Unpublished beauty of the natural landscape and wild life

The location chosen for this presentation, the "Centre nature et forêt Mirador" in Steinfort, is one of the five national centres, dedicated, with their exhibitions, guided tours and other activities, to facilitate access to all the wealth and natural beauty of the country. Nevertheless, the fact that Luxembourg has a diversity of unusual animal species, housed in very distinct and different habitats, and playing an essential role for the ecological balance of the country, remains largely underestimated.

New series of videos

In order to present this great richness in biodiversity, the Ministry of Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development has produced a series of documentaries in collaboration with RTL Luxembourg. In the course of the series of five videos, children and adults set off together to discover the wild fauna and flora of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg.

The videos will first be broadcast on "RTL KannaTivi", RTL's weekly programme dedicated specifically to children, then on RTL Play and www.emwelt.lu. On RTL Télé, the episodes will be broadcast on 18 and 25 September and 2, 9 and 16 October, a few minutes before 19:00.

New illustrated cards

In addition to the videos, the ministry offers new illustrated maps, presenting at a glance the most beautiful examples of the wild fauna and flora of the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg. The maps are provided with graphic explanations, as well as summary information on the different species to know of the Luxembourgish fauna and flora. Each primary school in Luxembourg receives a few copies to raise awareness among students in schools. The maps are now available free of charge at the nature and forest centres as well as online via www.emwelt.lu.
