The public consultation phase of the draft of the second edition of the Luxembourg flood risk management plan, published by the Water Management Authority (Administration de la Gestion de l'Eau - AGE) under the supervision of Luxembourg's Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development, has begun.

Christine Bastian, head of the AGE hydrology department, explained: “The plan, developed within the framework of the European Union's 'Flood Directive', identifies strategies and measures aimed at reducing the potential negative consequences of a flood for people, the environment, cultural heritage and economic activity and emphasises flood prevention, protection and preparedness. The flash flood strategy is now an integral part of the flood risk management plan".

For anyone interested, the Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development is organising a public information meeting on the flood risk management strategy on Monday 12 July 2021 at 19:00 via Webex: https://gd.lu/1q79bd.

The auditors will be informed on the basis of current maps on regional and local flood risks, as well as on risk reduction strategies and measures put in place to inform and better prepare the public for future floods.

The draft management plan can be consulted via the AGE's website: www.waasser.lu (under the tab "Directives - Directive Inondation") and via the environment portal: www.emwelt.lu.

Written observations can be submitted until 24 September 2021 with the college of mayors and aldermen, which will then forward them to the Environment Ministry or directly to Luxembourg's Minister of the Environment, Climate and Sustainable Development:
