The municipal authorities of Niederanven recently discussed a future wind farm project.

On Friday 25 October 2024, the municipal council discussed the presentation of the concept of renewable energy by Soler SA and voted on the memorandum of understanding concerning the installation of several wind turbines and photovoltaic installations in Niederanven.

Soler/SEO, whose joint shareholders are Société Electrique de l'Our (SEO) SA and Enovos Luxembourg SA, presented its feasibility study for the Niederanven wind farm ("Wandpark Niederanven") project. This took into account both restrictions and potential surfaces and sites, as well as wind turbine dimensions. More specifically, it looked at the possibility of installing four wind turbines for a wind farm with a total power of 17.04 MW and an annual production capacity of approximately 35.5 million kWh per year.

The wind farm is expected to produce electricity for 7,890 households of four people (4,500 kWh / year), or an estimated total of 31,560 people per year. The project would save about 23,075 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) per year (approximately 15 tonnes of CO2 per person per year in Luxembourg).

The study also analysed the various procedures necessary for completion of this project (lease agreements, environmental studies, wind measurements, etc.), as well as additional studies such as an analysis of the impact of the project on humans, flora and fauna.

In terms of the planning timeline, the feasibility study (2023-24) has been completed and the project is currently approaching the end of the other studies (2023-24) phase. The next steps are authorisations (2025-26) and construction (2027-28). Citizens (residents) are also invited to participate in this project.
