On Tuesday 10 October 2023, Luxembourg's Ministry of Energy and Spatial Planning published the latest results of efforts to reduce natural gas consumption in Luxembourg.

To guarantee the European Union's (EU) energy supply during the upcoming winter and to make appropriate preparations, the initiative aimed at achieving a voluntary 15% reduction in natural gas consumption at the European level saw a one-year extension. This target forms part of the EU's voluntary target for member states to reduce their natural gas consumption compared to the reference period from 2017 to 2022.

In September 2023, the reduction in natural gas consumption corresponded to approximately 40.9% compared to the reference period from 2017 to 2022, therefore once again on track to meet the gas demand reduction target of the EU Member States.
